Charlie Chaplin's "Cruel Cruel Love"
Run time 8:58Audio/Visual sound, B/W
Charlie Chaplin's 8th Film released March 26 1914
This early Chaplin film has him playing a character quite different from the Tramp for which he would become famous. He is a rich, upper-class gentleman whose romance is endangered when his girlfriend oversees him being embraced by a maid. Chaplin's romantic interest in this film, Minta Durfee, was the wife of fellow Keystone actor, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle.

Charlie has trouble with the help
A distinctly different CC film has Charlie as the rich man about town having some trouble with the help. After his wife sees him "kissing" the maid he gets kicked out of the mansion, and hilarity ensues as he tries to get her back, and the staff at the house try to convince the wife that nothing untoward has happened.
Watch especially for the scene with Charlie in hell!

Not what you would expect from Charlie Chaplin, but still very enjoyable.

My Favourite Charlie Chaplin Short
I know, I know, This short is considered one of his weakest. But I really enjoy it! It's fun seeing charlie doing something different, and it features great footage of the early 20th Century. I do think that his first masterpieces came with feature films, But this is still a very entertaining short.
